Robert S. Mahon, 43 of Pendleton, formerly of La Grande, died suddenly Tuesday March 21, 2023 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
A celebration of his life will be held at Pioneer Park 3pm-6pm Saturday June 10, 2023.
Private services for family will be at the Union Victorian Cemetery.
Born one of twin boys on May 2, 1979 in La Grande, Robert Shawn was a son of James and Debra (Huddleston) Mahon. Robert was raised by his mother and step-father, Randy Rhodes, in La Grande. Robert excelled as a three sport athlete while attending La Grande High School and graduated with the class of 1997. He then attended Eastern Oregon University where he played football while earning his Master’s Degree in Education in 2004.
Robert taught middle school English and coached wrestling and baseball in Kingman, Arizona, then returned to La Grande to coach football at Eastern. Robert then moved to Tyler, Texas to coach football with his brother. On December 10, 2021 Robert was married to Catherine Devoe (best thing he ever did) in La Grande while being a devoted father to her two children. Robert was training to be a conductor for Union Pacific Railroad while living in Pendleton at the time of his sudden death.
While not a member of organized religion Robert was a very spiritual person. His first love was football followed closely by baseball. Robert was loved by people, especially his family for his great sense of humor and his way of telling stories.
Surviving relatives include his wife Catherine Mahon and children, Ashton and Jacobie Devoe and his mother, Debra Stever (Aldon) all of Pendleton, his father, James Mahon of Vietnam, his dad, Randy Rhodes of La Grande, twin brother Ryan Mahon (Pam) of Brenham, Texas, sisters, Amanda Burke (Lee) of Germany and Tia Powell (Brandon) of Klamath Falls; numerous nieces and nephews, numerous aunts and uncles as well as numerous cousins. Robert is preceeded in death by his grandmother Constance M. Wood, uncle Danny Huddleston Sr. and cousin Samantha Simonis Hickey.
