Robert Louis Hull

June 12, 1923 — September 5, 2009

Robert "Bob" Louis Hull, age 76, of Union, died September 5, 2009 at his home. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Union Baptist Church. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.

Robert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Irene J. and Robert Lathen Hull. His father was killed in a truck accident when he was 8 months old. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Tex Cowell, from 9 years of age. At 17 he joined the Navy and was immediately sent to Korea. The four years he was in the Navy he served on the Yorktown, the Rendova, the Shangri-la, The Antietam and the Philippine Sea. He then joined the Air Force and spent 16 years serving in North Africa, Guam, Savannah, Georgia, and Tucson, Arizona where he met and married Janice Buffum in 1963. Together they were stationed in Adana, Turkey and Omaha, Nebraska in 1971. Later that year Robert and his family moved to Union, Oregon where their family grew to six children. Bob went to work at the Boise Cascade Particle Board Plant where he worked for 24 years, retiring in 1995. He worked for the Oregon Trail Bullet Company in Baker City part time for the next ten years.

Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, had owned 78 motorcycles through the years, but his favorite hobby was his guns. He shot Ipsec, Cowboy Action, muzzle loaders and trap through the 38 years in Union, until ill health prevented him from continuing shooting. But he could talk "guns" anytime and anywhere there was an interest. He knew no strangers. He was a member of Unions 4060, VFW and a member of the Union Baptist Church. He was so proud of and loved his children and his best friend and wife of 46 years.

He is survived by wife, Jan of Union; four sons and their spouses, Bob Jr. of Ellabell, Georgia, Tyrone and Daniela of Gatesville, Texas, Tod and Angel of Union and Jason and Holly of Horseshoe Bend, Idaho; daughter and her husband, Tina and Tommy of Murfreesboro, Arkansas; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy, in 1980.
