Robert "Bob" Keith Cheney

November 7, 1922 — April 10, 2009

Robert "Bob" Keith Cheney, 86, of La Grande, died April 10 at a local care center. Robert requested no services. A family memorial will be held at a later date.

Bob was born Nov. 7, 1922, to Earl Cheney and Harriet (Sawyer) Cheney in Shoshone, Idaho. He lived in Shoshone for many years then married the love of his life, Stella Baughman of Jerome, Idaho, Oct. 11, 1944. They had three sons.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to October 1945, two years of which were served in the South Pacific.

After forming and operating a farm supply business in Shoshone, Bob and Stella moved to Caldwell, Idaho, then later to Craigmont, Idaho, and finally to

La Grande where C&M Farm Supply was formed and operated for 19 years. They lived in La Grande until retiring.

Bob and Stella loved spending their winters in Arizona and summers in La Grande. In 2002, they moved to Tillamook then returned to La Grande in 2008. Bob loved gardening and was known for his corn, potatoes and zucchini. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing and could play pinochle for hours at a time.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Stella; sister, Adele Sullivan of Florida; sons, Bruce and his wife, Sondra Cheney, of Prineville, Keith and his wife, Sharon Cheney, of La Grande, and Morris and his wife, Nancy Cheney, of Tillamook; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Earl; mother, Harriett; brother, Earl; sisters, Olive and Barbara; and recently an infant great-grandson, Seth Robert Donohoe.
