Robert “Bob” Carl Dettmer, formerly of California and Texas, died Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at his home in La Grande, Oregon at the age of 67.
Bob was born on July 3, 1957 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Paul D. and Barbara A. (Mallery) Dettmer. He was raised and educated in LA where he graduated from University High School with the class of 1975. He attended the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado before returning to Los Angeles where he earned a degree from The University of Southern California and later a Master’s degree.
Bob worked as a banker and realtor before he became a long-haul truck driver, until a back surgery forced his retirement.
In 2009 he was married to Susan (Moore) Brady in San Antonio, Texas where they made their home until moving to La Grande, Oregon in 2021.
During his working years Bob was a member of the Toastmasters club. He enjoyed driving and seeing the country from his truck when he was able. He loved basketball, fishing and movies but most of all he loved his family.
Bob’s remaining family includes his wife Susan of La Grande, Oregon; daughters, Megan Long of Highlands Ranch, Colorado Mallery Wood of Watkins, Coloradado; four grandchildren; a step-son Ryan Beeler of La Grande, Oregon; and a brother, Tom Dettmer of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At his request there will not be a public service or ceremony.
