Richard "Dick" Schoen, age 83,of La Grande and formerly of Summerville died Thursday at his home. Viewing will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Loveland Funeral Chapel, 1508 Fourth Street. A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at the Christian Life Center, 12th and Alder Streets in Elgin. Burial will follow at the Island City Cemetery.
Mr. Schoen was born August 31, 1919, to John and Regina Salmon Schoen in Cleveland, Ohio. He spent his early life on the family farm in Ohio and then worked as a precision grinder fro Federal Wayne Aircraft.
He worked as a long-haul trucker and owned three of his own trucks, worked at home remodeling in Milton-Freewater, and farmed in Summerville. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church and Gideon Camp 3611. He enjoyed fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include a sister, Leota Mirz of Elberta, Alabama; a niece and a nephew. A brother, George Schoen and a sister, Elsie Billman died earlier.
