Richard "Dick" Duane Hoskin

December 17, 1933 — October 5, 2012

Richard Duane "Dick" Hoskin, age 78, died Friday, October 5th at his home in Island City.

A graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 13th at the Island City Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 at the La Grande First Baptist Church, at 6th & Spring Ave.

Dick was born on December 17, 1933 in Myrtle, Idaho to Chester Duane and Blossom Lenore (Waterer) Hoskin. He was raised and educated in the Lewiston, Idaho area before enlisting in the US Navy where he was aboard the LST 898, the LST 715 and the U.S.S. Bremerton. On July 3, 1953 he was married to Joan Marie Baldwin in Seattle. After Dick's honorable discharge from the Navy in 1954 the couple settled in La Grande and he began working at Mt. Emily Lumber Company. In 1994 he retired from Boise Cascade where he worked on the planer.

Dick was baptized at First Christian Church in La Grande and they also attended the La Grande Baptist Church. Dick enjoyed collecting and restoring antique cars and founded the Rusty Wheels Car Club with friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and in his younger days he and Joan enjoyed square dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joan of Island City; children and their spouses, Catherine Lynn and John Busey of Wilsonville, Rick Duane and Connie Hoskin of Summerville, John Cory Hoskin of Boise; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a special niece, Linda Eoff and her husband Rusty of Wallowa; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Barbara "Carol" Anderson.
