Richard 'Dick' Fred Hofmann

June 17, 1934 — December 4, 2015

Richard Fred 'Dick' Hofmann, age 81, of La Grande, died December 4, 2015 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A private family service will be held and burial will take place at the Grandview Cemetery. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to the charity of one's choice in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.

Dick was born on June 17, 1934, the son of Fred Charles and Marion (Asla) Hofmann in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1952. On july 2, 1955 he married Dixie Tiffany in Walla Walla. He worked from 1952 until 1962 for the State of Oregon on the pavement crew. He then went to work for Boise Cascade driving log truck for 40 years until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Elks Lodge until they closed. He was a member and past president of the Mavericks Riding Club, member off past chairman of the Blue Mountain Rodeo, member and past president of Local 2910, and Boy Scout leader of Troop #511 for 10 years. He loved his horses, mules, dogs and even the barn cats. He loved hunting and for 30 years in a row he and his son packed into the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness in Idaho. He also enjoyed going to the livestock sales every week. He enjoyed huckleberry picking, mushrooming and the outdoors. He and Dixie delivered Meals on Wheels for 8 years and he was named volunteer of the year by that organization in 2007.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie Hofmann of La Grande; son, Bart Hofmann of Summerville; grandchildren, Heather Tucker of Ontario and Jerrimi Hofmann of Tuscan, Arizona; one niece; two nephews; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by son, Brian Hofmann and sister, Joyce Wood.
