Richard Eugene Davies, age 80, of La Grande, died August 28, 2014 at his home. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Hot Lake Hotel. Guests will be invited to share remembrances. To sign the on-line guest book visit www.danielsknopp.com.
Rick was born on June 10th, 1934, in Los Angeles, California; the son of Paul and Marjorie (Taylor) Davies. At the age of one he moved to Salem and in 1948 the family moved to La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1952. During high school he was active in football, basketball, baseball, choir and the marching band. After graduation, he attended Linfield College and Willamette University where he also played football. He left college to enlist in the United States Army where he served honorably until 1957. He then returned to La Grande where he worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer for 43 years. With his wife, Wanda Jeanne, Rick loved to travel and enjoyed working on projects in their home and the homes of family and friends. They also contributed their time and talents to the restoration of Hot Lake Hotel. Rick was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Wanda Davies; daughters, Tara Warren, Pamela Kaiser, and Deanna Davies; brother, Bill Davies; 12 grandchildren, Chris, Michael and Ryan Warren; Cole, Erin and Jack Burgess; Christopher, Kathryn and Cassandra Van Roekle; and Mitchell, Aubrielle and Kristen Davies; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by brother, Mervin Davies and children, Mark and Angela Warren.
