Rebecca Jean (Betty) Simpson Carlock Fleet passed away peacefully on April 18, 2023 at home in Vancouver, Washington.
A visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, April 28 at Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande.
A Graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29 at the Union Victorian Cemetery in Union at 2 p.m.
A gathering of family and friends will follow at the Little White Church, 366 S. Main St., Union
Rebecca was born on December 29, 1928 to Effie (Wilson) and Earl Simpson in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
In 1946, Rebecca married the love of her life, Fredrick Carlock in Council, Idaho. With matching hammers, they built a home in Union, Oregon and raised 4 daughters.
After daughter Bonita’s death in 1967, Rebecca attended Eastern Oregon College. Rebecca was employed by Boise Cascade in La Grande and then the USFS Union Ranger District.
After husband Fred’s death in 1977, Rebecca continued on with a very active social life. She belonged to many clubs and organizations, It was at one these meetings she met Loren Fleet, Cove, Oregon and they were married. After moving to Troutdale, Oregon, Loren passed.
Rebecca was known for her kindness, perpetual smile, and her many talents. After surviving breast cancer in 1987, she made chemo hats for those going through treatment and burial gowns for infants who had passed. She was ready with food for any gathering. She loved a good (or bad) party, as long as it was a party with games. Rebecca especially loved singing with her grandchildren. Being the last of a generation but took heart in looking many years younger than she actually was.
Rebecca is predeceased by her parents and siblings, husband Fred Carlock, daughter Bonita, husband Loren Fleet, and many, many friends.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara (Kelly) Kyle, Nampa, ID; Beverley (Ed) Gowan, Toledo, WA; Julie Carlock and Bryan James, Vancouver, WA. Grandchildren Jody, Rick, Sean, Jennifer, and Michael. Six great grandchildren and approximately one gazillion nieces and nephews whom she also loved. She is also survived by Allen (Barb) Sanders, Copper Center, Alaska and their two kids, and many, many friends.
