Raymond Francis Carpenter, age 85, of Cove, died January 10, 2007 at a local care facility. A memorial service will be held on February 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Carpenter was born on October 28, 1921, one of the twelve children of Alfa Ray and Jennie Marie (Trapp) Carpenter in Deerfield, Missouri. He grew up in Nevada and Missouri and served in the United States Navy. On August 5, 1958 he married Doris Cady in Weiser, Idaho. He owned and operated a diesel truck repair and radiator repair shop in Baker City for many years. Once he sold his shop he worked as a shop foreman for the City of Baker City until retiring in the fall of 1983. They moved to Cove in 1982 and Doris preceded him in death on April 21, 1983. He also owned a ranch in Baker City where he raised cattle, sheep and pigs. Mechanic work was his main trade but he was a ‘jack of all trades. He loved the outdoors, farming, ranching, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed traveling to visit friends.
Survivors include his children, Sharon Carpenter of Corvallis, Larry Carpenter of La Grande, Dianne Miller of Kent, Washington and Laurie Hargett of Cove; sisters, Delta Barker of Joplin, Missouri, Bonnie Devore of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Ima June Frost of Topsham, Maine; brother, Jack Carpenter of Blanchard, Idaho; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
