Ray William Trump

February 24, 1918 — March 17, 2006

Ray William Trump, age 88, of Elgin, died March 17, 2006 in Boise, Idaho. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Elgin Seventh Day Adventist Church. Committal and interment will follow at the Elgin Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande.

Mr. Trump was born on February 24, 1918, the son of Promise homesteaders, Fred Arthur and Lula Alice (Sannar) Trump in Promise, Oregon. The family moved to Elgin when he was in his early teens. During his school years he worked haying for various farmers after school. He attended Elgin schools thru the 11th grade and then went to work for the box factory in Elgin. On September 12, 1938 he married Pearl Fisher in College Place, Washington. He worked as a logger using a cross cut saw at Pondosa and Elgin. He later managed the grain elevator for Union County Grain Growers. In 1966 he proudly earned his G.E.D. After his health no longer allowed him to work for the grain company he worked as non-licensed help at the funeral home.

Mr. Trump was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and was an avid storyteller who loved to talk about his life story. He had a remarkable memory of his life's stories and loved to share them with those around him. In his younger years he enjoyed leather craft and fishing. He always had a love of gardening and of hunting. He also had a great love of his wife, family and his dog, Becky.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Trump of Elgin; children, Dennis Trump of Tuscan, Arizona, Robert and Mary Trump of Elgin, Terral and Jack Schut of Island City and Tamara Robinson-O'Leary of Astoria, Oregon; grandchildren, Alicia Anderson, Robert Trump II, Kati Slater, Fran Zerbel, Doreena Helgeson, Darrin Trump, Ryan Robinson and Stephanie Schut; ten great grandchildren; brothers, Pete Trump of Elgin and Orval Trump of La Grande; sister, Irene Sims of Albany; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ermal Trump and sister, Lorine Riggle.
