Ralph W Moberry

Ralph W. Moberry, age 93, of La Grande, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Grande Ronde Hospital.

At his request there will be no funeral service. A gathering for family and friends will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2002 at the La Grande Country Club. Friends are encouraged to drop by between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. to share their memories of Ralph.

Mr. Moberry was born on February 19, 1909, the son of Leonard and Lucy (Surface) Moberry in Oakland, California. He grew up in Los Gatos, California and attended the College of the Pacific in Stockton, California. For 20 years he was superintendent of a Marine construction company in the San Francisco Bay area. He then began his career in golf as the Assistant Pro at the Olympic View and Seattle Golf Clubs in Seattle. In the late 1950's he came to La Grande and became the Golf Pro at the La Grande Country Club and spent his winters as a Golf Pro in the Palm Springs, California area. He retired in the early 1970's. While at the La Grande Country Club he worked to build the Junior Program and loved to teach and encourage young people. Mr. Moberry loved fly fishing and feeding his pet squirrels at the golf course.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Moberry of La Grande; daughters, Carol Moore of Colima, Mexico and Wendy Abel of Tigard; five grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one sister.
