Preston Roy Ashlock

February 10, 1932 — April 27, 2019

Preston Roy Ashlock, age 87, died at his home in Cove, on Saturday, April 27th. Preston was born in Rush Springs, OK, February 10th, 1932, to Roy Jefferson and Hazel (Myers) Ashlock. The family moved to California when he was six years old.

Preston married Carlyn Coxsey on November 25th, 1952. They spent their honeymoon in the Grande Ronde Valley with Carlyn’s sister and brother-in-law. Pres had an immediate love for this valley. They lived in California until moving to Arizona in 1957 and then to Seattle, WA.  Both worked at Boeing before returning to California. After nine years of hinting etc., Preston convinced Carlyn that they needed to move to the Grande Ronde Valley and did so in 1961.

Preston worked several places before bringing the Eastern Oregon Yamaha dealership to La Grande in 1976. He was an avid motorcycle and snowmobile rider. The whole family spent untold weekends camping and making enjoyable memories in the outdoors. Pres also enjoyed horses and hunting.

After selling the Yamaha dealership, Pres moved onto another one of his passions – cars! Pres was a salesman at heart. He worked for most of the car dealerships in La Grande at one time or another, as well as a couple of the parts houses. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to pull pranks on coworkers. Pres truly loved people and so many reciprocated. He was blessed with the "gift of gab."

Family from California visited nearly every summer and Pres always took them to experience his beloved Mt. Fanny and Mt. Harris. Pres made it a point to give the visiting family an outdoor adventure to remember – with high speeds or close-to-the-edge encounters…minor injuries were not uncommon!

As a born-again believer, Pres truly loved Jesus and his church. He looked forward every week to seeing fellow believers and missed it dearly when he became unable to attend. His greatest joy in life was his children. He bragged about them to anyone who would listen.

Pres was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Mary Lee (Lloyd) Shaw, Betty Jo (Dixon) Harrell and Helen (Freddie) Iosia.

He is survived by his wife and children; daughters, Corie (Dwayne) Depuy, and Cara (Matthew) Ediger, son Justin Ashlock, a grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4th, at 2:00 PM at Daniels Funeral Home. Cemetery interment to follow.
