Phyllis Jeanette Lovins, age 75, of La Grande, died April 17, 2015 at her home. A memorial service will beheld Wednesday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. at the Faith Center. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to the St. Labre Indian School or MISTI in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center, 1502 7th Street in La Grande.
Phyllis was born on October 20, 1939, the daughter of Elza and Zeola (Monzella) Helton near Windsor, Illinois. She was educated in Windsor and after graduating from high school she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth 'Lee' Lovins. She worked in Illinois for General Electric as a maintenance mechanic for many years until moving to La Grande in 1975. She was a partner with Gail Turnbow in Turnbow's Corner Gas Station in Island City where Island City Market is now, where she was a mechanic for a short time. She then worked at Eastern Oregon University in the physical plant.
Phyllis was a longtime member of the Faith Center and the Aglow Christian Fellowship. She loved studying the Bible and sharing it with others. She participated in the Walk for a Cure a few times. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and hiking. She enjoyed doing bead work and puzzles and liked to go to yard sales.
Survivors include her son, Donald Lovins of La Grande; sister and her husband, Doris and Mike Goodson of Neoga, Illinois; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; four nieces; former husband, Lee Lovins of La Grande and many friends. She was preceded in death by sons, Russ and Ron Lovins.
