Pharis Andrew Timpy

April 7, 1928 — April 5, 2010

Pharis Andrew Timpy, 81, formerly of Union and Irrigon, died April 5 from complications of diabetes at his home at Ridgefield, Wash. A service to celebrate his life will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Northwood Park Funeral Home, 16407 NE 15th Ave., in Ridgefield. A second service will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday at Loveland Funeral Chapel. A potluck dinner with live music will follow at the Eastern Oregon Livestock Show clubhouse, 760 E. Delta St. in Union.

Pharis was born April 7, 1928, at Wolf Creek near North Powder. He graduated from Union High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 through 1948.

He married Dorothy Hayward in 1947, and they later divorced. He then married Clair Pfenney. The couple later divorced. In 1971, he married Anna Henderson. They divorced later.

He spent more than 40 years as bartender extraordinnaire for both his talent and his ability to make friends that numbered in the thousands. He piloted for hauling and placement of many power windmills in the Eastern Oregon area. Earlier in his life, he owned businesses, and tried his hand at raising cattle and chickens. He was a passionate lover of country music. He owned several clubs in Union and Irrigon and worked numerous clubs in the Portland area.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Yielding, Michael Pharis Timpy, Charles Deane Timpy, Wilma Reynolds, Andrew Carman Timpy, Anthony Zabel, Paul, Sheila and John Pfenney; and sister, Carol Richardson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Carman Timpy; mother, Ellen Magdeline Simonis Timpy; sister, Wilma Haefer; and daughter, Shelly Pfenney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Portland VA Medical Center, 3710 SW US Vets Hospital Road, Portland 97239.
