Paula Dianne Hammond

Paula Dianne (Cash) Ledridge Hammond, age 56, of Lebanon died Wednesday, January 28, 2004. A funeral will be held on Monday, February 2, 2004 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Rev. Frank Cooke officiating. Private interment will be held at the Island City Cemetery.

Paula was born on April 6, 1947, the daughter of Robert and Barbara Jean (Sharp) Cash in La Grande, Oregon. She was raised in the La Grande area where she also raised her three children as a single mother.

Paula was very active in volunteering in all three of the girls' pre-school classes, where she eventually became a Teacher's Aide. She remained employed at Head Start for approximately twelve years. She was a favorite of all the children in the classroom, always welcoming them with a big hug. During the summer months she worked in the kitchen at a nursing home. After her employment with Head Start, she provided in-home care for the elderly, who also admired her tremendously.

Paula was married to Alfred "Al" Hammond on August 4, 1993. Paula and Al enjoyed fishing, camping, going for drives and just spending time together. In 2002 they moved to Lebanon to be near her daughters. Her favorite pastimes included going to yard sales, reading, cleaning, making freezer jam, slot machines, watching the Home and Garden channel, spending time with her grandchildren and above all, meeting and helping people.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred Hammond of Lebanon; children, Dianne Barricklow of Lebanon, Deborah Ledridge of Lebanon and Barbara Shorten of Oregon City; father, Robert "Bob" Cash of La Grande; brothers, James Cash of Indiana and David Cash of La Grande; sister, Kathleen Freels of Tigard; grandchildren, Bradley and Michael St. Peter, Brittney Ledridge, Chelsey Garbocci, Garrett, Dustin and Andrhea Shorten and Tamela and Nicole Barricklow; and other relatives and friends. Her mother preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made at any US Bank deposited to the Paula Hammond Donation Account or in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley. This will help defray the cost of Paula's incurred medical expenses.
