Paul Ishmael Conley

May 5, 1916 — February 19, 2005

Paul Ishmael Conley, 88 of Wilsonville, and formerly of Elgin, died Feb. 19. A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Wilsonville United Methodist Church, 7355 S.W. Wilsonville Road.

Mr. Conley was born May 5, 1916 to Tom and May Hitchcock Conley in Salyersville, Ky. At the age of 17 he came to Oregon with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

In 1942 Paul married Betty Williams of Elgin. In Elgin he was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, served on the Elgin City Council and drove the senior citizens' bus. He owned and operated movie theatres in Elgin, Wallowa and Union for 27 years.

He was past assistant state director of the Oregon Good Sams' Club and a member of the Newmar Travel Club. He retired at the age of 86 as a goodwill ambassador for Camping World.

Survivors include his wife of Wilsonville; children and their spouses, Sandra Conley and Susan Powers of Sunnyvale, Calif., Paula Conley of Lake Oswego, Lynne Wright and Jack Johnson of Eureka, Calif., and Walt Conley of Renton, Wash.; two grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Two sisters, Alice and Frances, three brothers, Howard, Bill and Jack, all died earlier.
