Paul Norven Carman

October 3, 1927 — November 15, 2005

Paul Norven Carman, age 78 of Union, died Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery with a potluck to follow at the Hut in Union. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 18, 2005 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon.

Paul Norven Carman was born on October 3, 1927, the son of Elvin and Virginia (Davenport) Carman in Hood River, Oregon. He attended schools in La Grande and on November 21, 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army. Paul served in the Pacific Theatre as well as the Philippines during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and in 1948 he married Dennis "Denny" Allred. Together the couple raised four children and lived in Boise, Idaho for a short time before returning back to La Grande. Later the marriage ended in divorce. Paul owned a service station in La Grande for a time and later went to work for numerous lumber companies which included, La Grande Lumber, Copland Lumber Company in Portland and La Grande Builders Supply. In 1974, Paul married Beverly Gipson in Weiser, Idaho and after 25 years of employment he retired in 1992. Paul was an accomplished pilot and loved to fly. He also enjoyed square dancing, hunting, target shooting, motor cycles, guns, fixing up bicycles for children and most of all loved his grandchildren.



Survivors include his wife, Beverly Carman of Union; children and their spouses, Paul and Brenda Carman Jr. of Union, Sandy and Ron Droke of Union, Elvin and Carolyn Carman of Columbia Falls, Montana and Rod and ex-wife Sheri Carman of La Grande; step-children and their spouses, Tom and Jeannie Collins of Elgin and Blanche and Emery Leonard of La Grande; fifteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Carman, Gary Carman and Donald Carman; sisters, Beverly Carman, Shirley Kleng, Connie Heller, Joyce Smith and Kathleen Gilgert and other relatives and friends. His parents, brothers Elvin Carman and Keith Carman and a sister Sharon Shenfield all preceded him in death.
