Patrick Lee Garity

June 22, 1946 — October 26, 2003

Patrick Lee Garity, age 57, of Cove, died suddenly at his home on Sunday, October 26, 2003. A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the La Grande Elks Lodge with Father Hank Albrecht officiating. Fraternal services will be under the auspices of the La Grande Lodge #433 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Garity was born on June 22, 1946, the son of Ben and Loreen (Janz) Garity in La Grande. In 1964 he graduated from La Grande High School and in 1968 he graduated from Eastern Oregon University. He was manager of the Union-Wallowa-Baker Federal Credit Union for many years and was currently manager of Northwood Homes in Island City. For twenty years he served with the Oregon National Guard. On May 23, 1986 he married Sue (Schwarz) Whittemore in Elko, Nevada. They lived in La Grande before moving to Cove.

Mr. Garity was a member of the La Grande Elks Lodge and served as Exalted Ruler during 1976-1977. He was also a member of the La Grande Country Club and was an avid golfer. He enjoyed working in his yard and with his roses. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and his original laugh. He will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Garity of Cove; step-children, Heath Richter of Powell Butte, Oregon and Terra Richter of Union; other relatives and many, many friends. His sister, Sharon Endicott preceded him in death.
