Patricia Jean Whitmore

Patricia Jean Whitmore, 81, of La Grande and formerly of Enterprise, died November 30, 2006 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. A memorial service is planned for the spring of 2007.

Mrs. Whitmore was born January 21, 1925, to Thomas and Winona Stevens Bittle in Lewiston, Idaho. She graduated from Adams High School in Clarkston, Washington in 1943. During World War II she worked at the Lewiston Tribune and later at Hanford in Richland, Washington. She married Robert Glen Whitmore on August 23, 1945 in Walla Walla, Washington. She resided in Enterprise, Oregon from 1945 until moving to La Grande in 1967.

Above all else, our mom loved us completely and unselfishly everyday of her life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, tending to her roses, tole painting and taking photographs. Until recent years, she enjoyed going to garage sales and planning for her own yearly sale with family and friends. She always had time to sit and visit and generously shared whatever produce was currently in season in her garden. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary and faithfully volunteered at the Senior Center helping with senior meals.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Mike and Cindy Whitmore of La Grande; Jackie and Jay Simmons of Oregon City; and Tim and Cammie Whitmore of Island City; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother, Chuck and Louise Bittle of Clarkston, Washington and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2003.
