Orval Burton Carder

Orval Burton Carder, 88, formerly of Halfway, died Dec. 4 at the Clare Bridge Home in Bend. A full obituary is available at Niswonger-Reynolds.com.

Orval was born Feb. 27, 1921, to Alva Burton Carder and Mary Nettie Woodall in Halfway. Orval graduated from Eagle Valley High School in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Corps in September 1939. In 1942 he married Mary Loueva Carnahan. Orval survived three wars. In WW II Orval was a bomber pilot and spent the last 18 months of the war in a German POW camp. After 31 years of military service, Orval retired from the Air Force flying C-141 Cargo transports to Vietnam in 1970. In 1967, he married Elisabet Jonsbu of Norway.

He eventually obtained his real estate broker's license, specializing in ranch property in Central Oregon and Eastern Oregon. He incorporated as Oregon Ranch Realty.

He is survived by sons Roger of Milton-Freewater and Greg of Bend; daughter, Claire of Portland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
