Olin Moore Hopkins

July 11, 1923 — February 21, 2007

Olin Moore Hopkins, loving father grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away from complications due to cancer on February 21, 2007 in Provo, Utah at the age of 83.

He was born to Rev. Benjamin Franklin Hopkins and Mary Ann Cadow Green in Terral, Oklahoma on July 11, 1923. He was a combat veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the South Pacific. He fought in nine major battles and numerous small battles.

After the war, he met and married a beauiful young woman, Margaret Ann Hunt in Baker City, Oregon. They were married on June 5, 1949.

In 1961, after a miraculous answer to prayer, Olin joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and never looked back. He was sealed to Margaret and to their three children in the Salt Lake Temple on June 28, 1962. It was a wonderful day. He has served faithfully in all that was asked of him in the quorums and councils of the church.

Olin was a pioneer in the grass seed business in the Imbler, Oregon, Grande Ronde Valley area, trading in a world-wide market. He was also prominent in the bulk fertilizer business. He enjoyed prospecting and mineral extraction.

He is survived by a daughter, Renee Stewart, of Payson, Utah; and sons, Olin V. Hopkins of La Grande, Oregon; and Mark L. Hopkins, Minersville, Utah; 12 grandchildren,and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, and was preceded in death by eight siblings.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Cherry Ridge Ward Chapel, 1100 South 250 West (Loafer Canyon Road), Salem, Utah. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery.
