Norris Clair Stubblefield

June 19, 1933 — September 29, 2010

Norris Clair Stubblefield, 77, of La Grande, affectionately known as "Stub," died Sept. 29 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. His memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the La Grande First Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow with family. Graveside services will begin at 3 p.m. at Monument Cemetery in Monument.

Norris was born June 19, 1933, to Otis and Ellen (Shank) Stubblefield at Long Creek. He graduated from high school in Monument. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball, and was the catcher on the American Legion All Star Team. He learned at an early age to be an able farm hand, and was employed with the Oregon Forest Department.

He spent 25 years with the Columbia Power Co-op and was owner of the Moon Motel for 16 years. Norris was a member of both the John Day and La Grande chapters of the Elks BPOE, and served on the Hotel/Motel Association. Those who knew him say he was a supportive, compassionate and loving friend to his family and friends.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, woodwork and gardening. Those who knew him say he was an inventor of many handy work-saving gadgets and that "if it was broke, he could fix it." He enjoyed watching his grandchildren's activities.

Norris is survived by his wife, Yvonne; three daughters and their spouses, Dayneen Koopman, Linda and Pat Lyman and Susan and John Cederholm; seven grandchildren; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, George and Delbert Stubblefield; and sister, Georgia Stubblefield.
