Nila Elguera, 81, of La Grande, died March 9 at a local care facility. No local services are planned at this time; services will be held in California at a later date.
Nila was born Feb. 1, 1929, to Telesforo and Rosanne (Archuleta) Duran in Questa, N.M. She moved to this area 13 years ago from Chino, Calif.; before that she lived in Lake Arrowhead, Calif. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and served the community through the Senior Companion Program.
Nila enjoyed sewing and making and designing clothes and doing crossword puzzles. She spent much time reading her Bible, serving the Lord.
Survivors include her children, Margaret Corig of La Grande, Yvonne Moreno of Wrightwood, Calif., Jose Louis Elguera of Oceanside, Calif., Manuel George Elguera of Rosarito Beach-BC, Mexico, and Edward Augustine Elguera of La Quinta, Calif.; brother, Telesforo Duran, Jr., of Questa, N.M.; and 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
