Nicholas "Nick" Everett Simonis

Nicholas "Nick" Everett Simonis, age 95, of La Grande, died Saturday, February 26, 2005 at a local care facility. A funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church with Father Hank Albrecht. Committal and interment will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Simonis was born on February 22, 1910, the son of John and Bertha (Sheehan) Simonis in North Powder, Oregon. On December 25, 1958 he married Beth Hewitt in La Grande and he worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freight lines and then for the subsequent owners of that company until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Church and the Eagles Lodge. He loved playing Pinochle and bowled well into his 80's. His favorite hobby was his garden.

Survivors include his daughter, Arlene Baldwin of Orem, Utah; eight grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. A daughter, Mary, and his wife, Beth, preceded him in death.
