Nellie Delia Vannice, age 95, of North Powder, died Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Grande Ronde Hospital. Services will be held at the North Powder Methodist Church on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be held at the Alford Cemetery, near Harrisburg, Oregon on Wednesday, May 5, 2004 at 11:00 a.m.
Nellie was born in Halsey, Oregon on December 21, 1909 to Henry and Esther Falk. Two sisters, Pearl Boots and Grace Thompson and one brother, Everett Falk, preceded her in death. Nellie's husband, Kenneth Vannice, passed away in 2001. She is survived by three sons, Kenneth, Jr. and wife, Holly and Donald and wife, Bonnie, all of Halfway, Oregon and Vernon and wife, Martha, of Lacey, Washington. Nellie had 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren. One grandchild and one great grandchild preceded Nellie in death.
Nellie married Kenneth Vannice in 1929. They were married for almost 72 years. Nellie was noted for her cooking and sewing abilities. She graduated from Halsey High School, raised three sons and then returned to college studies. She attended 13 consecutive summer sessions to achieve her bachelor degree. She was a music educator. Nellie was a long time member of the Rebekah Lodge, the Grange and the Methodist Church. Nellie, Mom and grandmammie will be missed.
