Nellie Ethel Needles

November 14, 1918 — February 28, 2006

Nellie Needles, 87, formerly of La Grande, died Feb. 28 at her home in Baker City.

A graveside service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Baker City. After the service friends are invited to a reception at the Community Connections Center, 2810 Cedar Ave. in Baker City.

Nellie Ethel Needles was born Nov. 1918, to Henry and Nellie Rogers Hooker in Hermiston. Her mother died of the flu just seven days after Nellie was born. Her Grandmother Rogers took her in as her own. Nellie was raised and educated in the La Grande and Hermiston areas until she was 13 years old.

Just before her 18th birthday she married Enos Burchett of Hermiston. They divorced five years later. In 1948, Nellie moved ot Baker City, where she met and later married Elver Dennis Needles on Dec. 5, 1948.

She enjoyed cooking and she and Elver loved to dance. They traveled to many places during their 55 years of marriage. Nellie and Elver lived all of their married years in Baker City.

Mrs. Needles is survived by her niece and nephew-in-law, Sandra and Dick Miller of Elgin; favorite cousins Doris Lilly of Summerville and Marian Hilary of Salem; three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and a sister.
