A memorial celebration for Naedean Barnes of Elgin, who died Oct. 27, 2008, will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 50 S. 20th Ave., in Elgin.
Those who knew Naedean are invited to bring their memories and fond thoughts of her. Photos and stories to share will be available along with a light buffet.
Naedean Roberta Barnes, age 85, of Elgin, died Monday morning at her home. The family will have a celebration of life service in the spring. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to the Elgin High School or the Albertina Kerr Homes (for children) in care of Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande. Naedean was born March 1, 1923, the daughter of Robert Eugene and Margaret W.(Ohms) Wiles in La Grande. She was raised and educated in Elgin. On March 31, 1942 she married Thomas Arleigh Barnes.
Naedean was a member of the Pythian Sisters, The Good Sam Club and in her younger years she enjoyed bowling. She had a great love of the outdoors, enjoying flower gardening, mushroom hunting, huckleberry picking and especially fishing. Naedean was an avid reader, enjoying all types of books. She was a sports fan, always a supporter of the Portland Trail Blazers and the Green Bay Packers. She was a great mother to her sons and loved being a grandmother.
Survivors include her children, Richard and Bernadette Barnes of Leaburg, Oregon, Russell Barnes of Anchorage, Alaska and Stanley and Karyn Barnes of Cathedral City, California; brother, Robert K. Wiles of Elgin; sister, Billie Jean Rogers of Elgin; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Eugene Barnes in 1965 and her husband, Thomas, in 1992.
