Myrtle Irene Schaad

March 18, 1910 — July 24, 2003

Myrtle Irene Schaad was born March 18, 1910 at Dilley, Oregon to Adolf "Henry" Wolf and Elizabeth Diane (Tucker) Wolf. She died Thursday July 24, 2003 at a local care facility in La Grande at the age of 93.



Myrtle was raised in Dilley, Oregon and attended Forest Grove High School and graduated from Pacific University with a Bachelor's degree in 1931. While teaching in Halfway, Oregon she met and married her husband, Roland Schaad August 19, 1934. Myrtle and Roland had three sons, David, Roger, Gordon and a daughter, Beverly.

Myrtle was a teacher of Kindergarten through grade twelve. She taught in Halfway, Myrtle Point, Perry, and Elgin where she retired in 1975. Myrtle was the last teacher at Perry. In addition to teaching Myrtle was actively involved in the community where she was a longtime member of the La Grande First Baptist Church, played in the Grande Ronde Symphony, was active in the Community Concert, the Art Guild, the Indian Festival of Arts, Blue Mountain Rock Club, 4-H clubs and the Scouting Program. At various times during her life she taught piano and was a church organist. In addition to her fondness for music and art, she was an avid gardener.

She is survived by her sons and their spouses: David and Harriet Schaad of Bakersfield, California, Roger and Sandy Schaad of Beaverton, Oregon, Gordon and Gayle Schaad of La Grande; daughter, Beverly Schaad of Cheney, Washington, five grandsons, two great granddaughters, many nephews and cousins. Myrtle was the last of a family of 10 children (8 brothers and one sister.) She was preceded in death by her husband, Roland in 1997.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, July 28, 2003 at11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande followed by interment at
Grandview Cemetery.
