Charles "Monte" Carnes, age 69, of La Grande died Friday, November 4, 2005 at his home. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish may make contributions in his memory of the MS Society of Oregon or to the charity of one's choice in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 7th Street, La Grande, Oregon 97850.
Mr. Carnes was born on June 16, 1936, the son of George Lester and Gladys (Scott) Carnes in La Grande, Oregon. He was raised in La Grande and lived in the same house since the age of 2. He graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1954 and was a hog and grain farmer all of his life. On December 13, 1979 he married Teri Wright in La Grande. Farming was his life and in his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, golf, snow skiing and flying airplanes. He was a member of the Wheat League and the NE Oregon Pork Producers. He was a John Deere fan and spent many hours at S&G Machinery visiting with friends. Over the past 30 years he courageously battled Multiple Sclerosis but he never let it stop him from working his farm.
Survivors include his wife, Teri Carnes of La Grande; children, Michael and Shelly Carnes of Boise, Idaho and Marci and Robin Bartlett, of La Grande; five grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
