OBITUARY FOR MONA M. SUDBROCK

Mona Maxine (Miller) Sudbrock, long time La Grande resident, died Tuesday, October 13th at the Grande Ronde Hospital at the age of 91.

A service will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. Committal and interment will follow at the Island City Cemetery. Serving the family is Daniels-Knopp Funeral & Cremation Center.

Mona was born on February 7, 1924 to Elmer C. and Lela E. (Lile) Miller in Stanfield. The family moved to La Grande in 1926 when Mona was only 3 and she has lived the remainder of her life here. She graduated from La Grande High School with the class of 1942 and attended Eastern Oregon College for a year. On July 10, 1943, she married Virgil Sudbrock, Jr. at the First Christian Church in La Grande. They were married 54 years when her husband died in October 1997. Mona worked as a receptionist/bookkeeper for Dr. Donald Rose and then for Doctors Hicks, Geraci and Hetrick at the pediatric clinic.

Mona was a life-long, very active member of the First Christian Church. At the time of her death she was an Elder Emeritus. She held many offices in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, including District President for two years. She was also active in P.T.A. and 4-H when her children were in school. She belonged to Tri Mountain Good Sam Chapter and was a life member of National Good Sam.

Survivors include her daughter, Hazel Chandler of Phoenix, Arizona and son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Tina Sudbrock of La Grande; 8 grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Ferd Allred, Richard and Daniele Chandler, Brett and Melissa Jackman, Wendy and Tommy DuBois, Jennifer Chandler, Cory and Nelli Sudbrock, TJ and Jacque Sudbrock, and Danielle and Matthew Mitchell; 13 great granddaughters, 17 great grandsons, 3 great-great grandsons, 4 great-great granddaughters, numerous granddogs; sisters Joan Bright of La Grande, Betty Distler of Yakima, Washington, Janice Hayes of Oak Harbor, Washington; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter, Joyce Jackman and grandson, Matthew Jackman
