Min Plass McLain passed away peacefully on November 19, in Elgin. She was born in 1921 in Osceola, Nebraska along with her twin brother Mervin to Fred and Keziah Green. The twins joined three half siblings Neola, John, and Floyd Wisely, and siblings Ed, Emma, and Fred Green. At the height of the depression in 1937 the twins and their mother Keziah moved to Wallowa where Min graduated from high school in 1939.
Min met Melville Plass in Wallowa and married him in Seattle in 1942. They lived in Portland during WWII where Min worked as a telephone operator. In Portland they welcomed their first child Barbara Plass McClure in 1945. Later Mel and Min moved to La Grande where their second child Gregory Plass was born in 1948. The Plass family was long time members of the La Grande First Methodist Church where Min arranged flowers for the Sunday services for many years. After the untimely loss of her first husband Mel in 1971, she worked for the First Methodist Church and Trotter's Men's Wear in La Grande.
In 1976 she married Wallowa High School classmate Vern McLain, and moved to his family farm in upper Wallowa Valley. Vern and Min enjoyed traveling around the US and visiting friends and relatives. They later moved to Enterprise where she attended the Enterprise Community Church. After Vern passed away in 1994, Min remained in their home in Enterprise until health issues forced her to move to Elgin in 2010.
Min was active in church groups, the beta sigma phi sorority and was a past president of PEO; she liked to play bridge with her friends, and travel. Min loved flowers and birds. Where ever she lived she always surrounded herself with beautiful flowers and bird feeders. She enjoyed going for hikes and drives in the spring to see the wild flowers that grew in abundance around Eastern Oregon.
Min in survived by her daughter Barbara McClure (Bill) of Elgin and son Greg Plass (Marcia) of Salem OR, brother Fred Green 98 of Long Beach CA, grandchildren Jason Plass of Olympia WA, Jadon McClure of Ellensburg WA, and Allison Plass of Portland OR; great grandchildren Waylon and Clayton McClure of Ellensburg along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by both husbands, sisters Neola and Emma, and brothers John, Floyd, Ed, and Mervin. Min was deeply loved by her family and friends; she was devoted to the churches and organizations to which she belonged, and she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 14, at 2 in the afternoon at the Enterprise Community Church at 301 NE 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Enterprise Community Church or the La Grande First Methodist Church, 1612 4th St., La Grande.
