Mina Margaret Houser

March 30, 1910 — May 16, 2005

Mina Margaret Crow "Houser", age 95 of Elgin, died Monday, May 16, 2005 at her home. A Celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Valley with Sally Wiens officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Lostine Cemetery in Lostine, Oregon. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2005 at Daniels Chapel of the Valley.


Mina Margaret Houser was born at Lostine, Oregon on March 30, 1910 to Simon Peter and Grace Angeline (Fitzpatrick) Crow. She graduated from Lostine High School, attended Willamette University for one year and also attended Monmouth Normal School before graduating with the first class at Eastern Oregon College in 1929.

Mina was married to Lloyd J. Houser on September 2, 1929 and spent 20 years teaching school in Wallowa County. She and Lloyd later purchased the Hardware store in Elgin and they operated it together until her retirement in 1972. Mrs. Houser later became a member of the Church of the Nazarene in 1973.


Survivors include four grandchildren; Dennis Lubbes of Milton-Freewater, Oregon , Janelle Davison of Walla Walla, Washington, Rhonda Davison of Gresham, Oregon and Joy Gregory of Eugene, Oregon; four great grandchildren; one great great grandchild and other relatives and friends. A daughter, Mina Jean Gregory, brothers Gale, Paul and Wayne Crow and a sister Thelma Childers all preceded her in death.
