Millie Mann-Hickerson, 94, formerly of La Grande, died May 21 at home in Yamhill surrounded by family. Services will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Coles Tribute Center in Baker City. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. A visitation will run from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Coles Tribute Center.
Millie was born Dec. 2, 1916, to J.O. "Jim" Hall and Mabel York Hall in Haines. At the age of 12, she and her family moved to Baker City, where she lived until ill health forced her to move to Yamhill with her daughter's family in 2002.
On June 28, 1932, at the age of 15, Millie married Francis E. Mann in La Grande. They lived on a ranch outside of Baker City where Francis worked. They later moved to Baker City where they purchased their first home for $5 down and $5 a month.
Francis became a licensed plumber, and Millie was his accountant and bookkeeper until he retired. After Francis retired, Millie was the pastry cook at South Baker grade school. She left her job to take care of Francis in his last years. After 51 years of marriage, Francis died on Nov. 22, 1983.
Millie worked as a cook at Elkhorn Village for several years. She retired to have more time for herself and family. On June 19, 1991, she married Wallace Hickerson. He died on April 17, 2001.
Millie is survived by her son, Grover Mann and his wife, Mary, of Lincoln City; daughter, Donna Lanyon and her husband, Ken, of Yamhill; son-in-law, Albert Seibel of Hermiston; many grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; twin sisters, Irene Martin of Caldwell, Idaho, and Lorene Spriet of La Grande; sister-in-law, Violet Hall of Hermiston; and numerous nephews and nieces.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; two infant daughters; daughter, Leatha Seibel of Hermiston; two great-grandsons, Danny Mann and Joe Mann; brothers, Glen and Donald Hall of Baker City and Edward Hall of Hermiston; sisters, Ada Haney and Dorothy Henner of Baker City; and husband, Wallace Hickerson of Baker City.
