Millie M. Clark

September 11, 1911 — January 5, 2005

Millie M. Clark, 93, of Milton-Freewater and formerly of La Grande died January 5 at a care center.

The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home, 902 S. Main St., in Milton-Freewater with Pastor David Miller of the Helix Community Church officiating.

Private burial will be in the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Mrs. Clark was born Sept. 11,, 1911 to John and Myrtle E. Carr Justus in Nebraska. In her mid-20s she moved to Oregon. She raised six children by herself starting in 1944. She held a number of jobs to pay the bills and keep the family together. Her mother-in-law, Eva Mae Clark, lived near her and helped care for the younger children. She cared for her mother-in-law the last several years of her life.

She received her teaching certificate from Eastern Oregon College in 1954, and taught in Gibbon, Milton-Freewater and Helix, where she worked until the age of 65. In 1988 she moved to a retirement center and then to a care center.

She was a member of the Helix Community church where she taught an adult Sunday school class, and had other leadership roles in the community. After retirement, she served as librarian at the Helix Library for several years. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and served as chair of the White Cross of Helix.

Survived include children, Millicent "Joan" Clark and June Ambler, both of Phoenix , Ariz., John Clark of Seattle, Dick Clark and Jerry Clark, both of La Grande; 21 grandchildren' 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Fields of Omaha, Nebraska.

A son, Don Clark, and two sisters died earlier.

Memorial may be made to the Helix Community Church in care of Munselle-Rhodes.
