Mildred Waltman

June 30, 1918 — February 23, 2007

Mildred Waltman, 88, a former Nampa, Idaho resident, died at her home in La Grande, Oregon, on February 23, 2007.

Mildred Maxine was born June 30, 1918, at McCune, Kansas to Henry and Pearl (Poole) Daniel. She was the sixth born of ten children. The family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1930.

Mildred married Cecil A. "Buzz" Waltman on July 9, 1934. They celebrated 65 years together, prior to Cecil's death in 1999. They made their home in Nampa. In 1953, they bought a small farm home east of Nampa, next to the railroad tracks. A historical article lists the house as the only remains of the lost town site of Collopy. Mildred lived there until August, 2004, when she moved to La Grande, Oregon, to be close to her only remaining sister and brother-in-law, Wynona and Walter Enter.

Mildred was a homemaker. Unable to bear children of their own, one of Mildred and Buzz's greatest joys was caring for their many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Mildred loved to bake and the nieces and nephews have fond memories of her pantry where one could always find home-baked cookies, cakes or pies. In later years, she would reminisce about all of the friends and family that she and Buzz entertained over the years. She was rather noted for making excellent sourdough pancakes and it was not uncommon for visitors to show up for breakfast!

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and all of her siblings except for her youngest sister, Wynona Enter. In addition to Wynona, survivors include a brother-in-law, Walter Enter, three sister-in-laws, Vivian Daniel, Rita Daniel and Susie Murphy, all of those who lovingly called her Auntie, and many friends.

Funeral arrangements are being taken care of by Daniels Chapel of the Valley in La Grande. A brief graveside service will take place at Kohler Lawn Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time/noon Mountain Standard Time on Thursday, March 1st, where she will be buried next to her beloved Buzzie.
