Mildred Ruth Baker, age 87, of Summerville, died July 3, 2004 at her home. Viewing will be from 5 to 7 pm at Loveland Funeral Home. The funeral will begin at 2pm Friday with Pastor Mark Schlessman of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Summerville Cemetery.

Mrs. Baker was born June 8, 1917 to Fritz and Anna M. Junker Hofmann in La Grande. She graduated from La Grande High School in 1936 and married Maurice David Baker on April 16, 1938. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital in the laundry department, as a cook at the Sacajawea Coffee Shop and as a cook at Grande Ronde Hospital until she retired.

She went every year to Wallowa Lake for the Alpen Fest and to Mount Angel for the Oktoberfest. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, picnics, going hunting with her family, Swiss music and dancing. She will be remembered for her kind heart.

Survivors include her companion, Leonard Campbell; children and their spouses, David and Arlene Baker of Imbler, Ronnie and Carol Baker of Summerville, Christine and Mike Brinkman of Molalla; daughter-in-law, Betty Baker of Summerville; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her husband, a son, Dan, an infant daughter, Cheryl, four sisters and three brothers all died earlier.
