Michael E. Mullins of La Grande died Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his home at the age of 77.
A Celebration of Life with Masonic rites will begin Friday, May 10th at 2:00 p.m. at Daniels-Knopp Funeral & Cremation Center, 1502 7th St. in La Grande. Committal with military honors and interment will follow at the Cove Cemetery.
Michael Ensign Mullins was born in Covina, California, on December 30, 1946, the first child of Coleman H. and Nocoma L. (Brown) Mullins. He graduated from Victor Valley High School with the class of 1964 and a few years later the family moved to Cove, Oregon. Mike, as he was known, was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and served until his honorable discharge in 1968. He returned to the Grande Ronde Valley and began working for the Boise Cascade Stud Mill where he worked for 44 years until his retirement in 2009.
In 1971 he was married to Patricia Witherrite in Union. Mike and Patricia were married for 18 years and had two daughters, Amanda and Tausha.
Mike was a 50 year member and past Worshipful Master of the Cove Masonic Lodge. He also belonged to the La Grande Eagles Aerie, La Grande and Baker Elks Lodge, the NRA, the American Legion Post and was one of the anonymous Blue Mountain Boys.
Mike and his long-time companion, Sherry DeBorde, enjoyed travelling, going to the Reno air races, camping, riding ATVs, until her death in 2017.
Survivors include his daughters, Mandi Case and her husband, Chris, of La Grande, Tausha Murray of Meridian, Idaho, Step-son, Jason DeBorde and his wife Heather, of Virginia, grandchildren, Spencer Case, Kendall Murray and Luke Murray, step grandchildren Riley DeBorde (Sarah) and Kali DeBorde, his sister, Patricia Mullins of Ontario, Oregon and brother Mark Mullins (Melanie) and nieces Nicole and Holli of Fruitland, Idaho.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents and his long-time companion Sherry DeBorde.
