Michael G. Hedman

Michael G. Hedman, 53, of Union died Jan. 10 at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland as the result of a motor vehicle accident.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Heppner United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hedman was born Dec. 28, 1951 to Arnie and Rita Belmore Hedman in Marquette, Mich. The family lived in Athena and Ione before settling in Heppner in 1963. He graduated from Heppner High School in 1970 and attended Eastern Oregon College before graduating from Oregon State university in 1975.

In 1976 he married Cheri Whittaker in Pendleton. They were later divorced. He raised cattle near Pilot Rock for 17 years before moving to Union where he worked as a fence contractor and for Bechtold Construction.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in the mountains.

survivors include two daughters, Mellisa Hedman of Portland and Joni Hedman of Lake Oswego; his mother and stepfather, Leo DeZeote and Rita Hedman-DeZeote of Heppner; siblings, Steve Hedman of Santa Rosa, Calif. and Jon Hedman of Danville, Va., Dale Hedman of Mattawa, Wash., Tim Hedman of Heppner, and Dee Miller of Hillsboro. His father died earlier.
