Michael Dennis Campbell

April 2, 1944 — August 11, 2010

Michael Dennis Campbell, 66, of Pilot Rock and formerly of La Grande, died Aug. 11 at Oregon Health Sciences University Hospital after a battle with leukemia. A celebration of his life was held in Pilot Rock.

Michael was born April 2, 1944, to Dennis and Juanita (Vandermulen) Campbell in La Grande. He graduated from La Grande High School and received a bachelor of science degree in animal sciences and later a master's degree in biochemistry from Oregon State University in 1967.

Michael married Judith Foster June 28, 1964, in La Grande. They met when they were both 13.

Michael had a 30-year career with Dow Chemical Co. beginning in 1967 and lived and worked in Lubbock, Texas; Hong Kong; Tokyo; Miami; Midland, Mich.; and Zurich, Switzerland. After retiring in 1998, he returned to his native Oregon. He enjoyed family, hunting, fishing and traveling. Those who knew him say he had a wonderful sense of humor.

Michael is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Campbell; daughters, Amy and her husband, Carter Hunt, Emily Campbell and Leslie Diephuis and her husband, Steve Diephuis; son, Dennis Campbell and his partner, Kristi Barnes; two grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jan (Foster) Bensel and her husband, Don Bensel; and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Campbell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Shriners Hospital.
