Mervine E. Hardy, 82, died at her home near Elgin on Sunday, October 27.
A service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 2nd at the Harvester's Church of the Nazarene in Elgin. Viewing time will be available from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church. Interment will be next to her husband at the Elgin Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande.
Mervine was born the eighth and last child to Charles and Virginia (Carper) Wortman on August 26, 1931 at Promise, Oregon. She attended schools in Promise, Wallowa, Prairie City and then returned to Wallowa. At the age of 16 she was married to Clyde Leroy Hardy in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho on September 29, 1946. They then settled on his ranch near Elgin and began their lives together which extended to 38 years until his death on January 4, 1984.
Mrs. Hardy attended the Christian and Nazarene churches in Elgin. She very much enjoyed her bible study groups. She served on the election boards. She played both the Violin and the harmonica by ear, and enjoyed the Old Time Fiddlers group. She also enjoyed flower gardening, canning and talking daily to her best friends.
Survivors include her children, Gene and Pam of Elgin, Rita and John Anderson of Pendleton, Helen and Tom Tucker of La Grande; eight grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brothers, Ersel Wortman of Wallowa, Wes Wortman of Riggins, Idaho; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Bernard Wortman, Bertha Smith, Fred, Stanley and Raymond Wortman, her parents and her husband.
