May A. Kalmbach

June 30, 1928 — October 28, 2005

May A. Kalmbach, 77 of Caldwell, Idaho, and formerly of the Grande Ronde Valley, died Oct. 28 in a automobile crash along Interstate 84.

Funeral services will begin 1 p.m. Friday at the Karcher Church of the Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Caldwell.

Mrs. Kalmbach was born June 30, 1928, to Homer and Jesse Kight Cosner of Lyle, Wash., the 15th of 16 children.

The family in 1936 came to the Grande Ronde Valley, where Mrs. Kalmbach attended the Ladd Canyon Grade School and Union High School. She graduated from Irrigon High School.

She returned to La Grande and worked with her sister Hulda Cosner, at the Blue Mountain Creamery.

On Nov. 30, 1947, she married Bob Kalmbach, her sister's husband's younger brother, in Forest Grove. The couple lived in the La Grande area for about nine years before moving to Idaho.

The Kalmbachs lived and farmed in Notus, Idaho. Mrs. Kalmbach liked to bowl, enjoying the sport for more than 40 years. She also loved to fish and bake breads, cakes and doughnuts that she entered in the Western Idaho Fair.

For 10 years, she and her husband spent summers as campground hosts at Sage Hen Reservoir. She enjoyed walking the campground and meeting people.

She is survived by her husband and three sons, Bob, Gary and Kevin, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Betty, died 10 years ago.
