Maxine Huizenga

Maxine M. Huizenga, age 78 of La Grande, died Sunday November 28, 2004 at a local care center. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the Summerville Cemetery with Rev. Mark Schlessman officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels Chapel of the Valley.

Maxine M. Huizenga was born on June 22, 1926 the daughter of Charles and Daisy (Shafer) Tamaris in La Grande, Oregon. Maxine spent her early years on Pumpkin Ridge, Summerville, Imbler and La Grande. In January of 1945 Maxine married Cornelius "Casey" Huizenga in Seattle, Washington. Together the couple moved to Palatine, Illinois for a time before moving back to the Grande Ronde Valley in 1955. She worked as a nurse's aid and was known for her caring and compassion for people. She was a past member of the Mt. Emily Good Sam Club and enjoyed crafts, ceramics, gardening, fishing and camping. Cornelius "Casey" Huizenga preceded her in death in 1976.

Survivors include her children and their spouses; Buck and Jeannie Huizenga of Palmer, Alaska, and Andy Huizenga of Island City; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters and brothers; Erma Riding, Evelyn Rose, Una Wilson, Ruby Evans, Olive Johnson, Guy Tamaris, Eldridge Tamaris, Richard Tamaris; and one grandchild
