Mary "Mary Jo" Josephine Tomeraasen

Mary Josephine "Mary Jo" Tomeraasen, 96, of La Grande died Dec. 14 at her home.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Private burial will be held at Grandview Cemetery.

Mary Jo was born June 20, 1912, to Charles and Josephine (Vernon) Noble in La Crosse, Wis. She received her high school diploma from Frances Shimer School in Mount Carroll, Ill. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Illinois and received her master's degree from Smith College in Northhampton, Mass., in 1936.

She worked as a social worker in various locations, including New York and Texas. She married Rev. Rollin W. "Tommy" Tomeraasen July 29, 1941, in La Crosse. They moved to La Grande in the fall of 1941.

She served on the La Grande Public Library Board and was a long-time participant in Great Decisions. She volunteered at the Grande Ronde Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church where she had been active in the Altar Guild and St. Ann's Guild.

She is survived by her son, Paul L. Tomeraasen of West Richland, Wash; and her daughter, Sarah and her husband Stephen Nault, of Arcadia, Mich. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother and sister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
