Mary Hope Morman passed away on October 22, 2011, in Salem, Oregon. Hope was born on November 15, 1919, in Spence, Colorado, to Emerson Hamlin and Dora (Awmiller) Hamlin. Hope grew up on her parents' prairie farm. She graduated from Woodrow High School, attended Colorado State College in Greeley, and taught in one-room schoolhouses near Last Chance, Colorado. She later worked at the Washington County Courthouse as secretary to the County Superintendent.
On November 17, 1945, she married Harold Morman. Harold and Hope had a daughter, Susan Eileen, born May 20, 1947, who died as an infant. Their oldest son, Gayle Wayne, was born in Brush, Colorado, in 1952. Harold and Hope farmed in Colorado before moving to La Grande, Oregon, in 1955. David Allen, their second son, was born in La Grande in 1956. Hope was a wonderful homemaker.
Hope was a member of the Methodist Church, in Last Chance, and later the Hendrix Methodist Church and the Evangelical Methodist Church in La Grande. After a long and full retirement of travel and volunteer work, Harold and Hope moved to Salem, Oregon in 2001. Harold died in Salem on October 22, 2007. Hope and Harold were married for 62 years.
Hope was a Sunday School teacher, church pianist, and a lover of Gospel hymns. She had a faith in Christ and the Bible that sustained her and ennobled her.
Hope is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law-Gayle and his wife Marcia (Hager) Morman of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and David and his wife Cindy (Struck) Morman of Salem, Oregon; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousins; nieces; nephews; and many friends.
Services will be held on November 5, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the Grande Ronde Community Church on North Fir Street in La Grande, with interment to follow at the Island City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels~Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
