Mary A. Carper, age 78, of College Place, Washington and formerly of Wallowa and Union Counties died September 30 at a care center. A graveside service will begin at 10:30 am Friday at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery. Mrs. Carper was born October 19, 1926 to Emmet and Erma Chenoweth Landers in Enterprise. She attended school in Wallowa before the family moved to California. On their return she married Fredrick C. Carper in Enterprise on December 31, 1947. The couple lived in Wallowa and Elgin and moved to Milton-Freewater in 1962. She worked at local canneries, a tree farm, the Athena School District and St. Mary Medical Center. She enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bary and Stacie Carper of Milton-Freewater; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Her husband and a son, Bruce, died earlier.
Memorials may be made to the Walla Walla Community Hospice.
