Mary Cade Jobes Canfield

November 28, 1906 — February 12, 2006

Mary B. Canfield, 99, of Longview, Washington and formerly of La Grande died February 12, 2006. A celebration of life will begin at 1 pm Saturday at Gresham Funeral Chapel, 257 SE Roberts Street in Gresham with the Rev. DeWayne LaPoint of Ocean Park, Washington officiating. Burial at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland will be private.

Mrs. Canfield was born November 28, 1906 to Fred and Bertha Clark in Akeley, Minnesota. She graduated from Akeley High School in 1926 and married James Cade the same year. They were divorced in 1937. In 1939 she married Lester Jobes in Spirit Lake, Idaho and moved to La Grande. She worked for a dry cleaner in La Grande and at the Grande Ronde Hospital as a cook. She retired in 1971.

She was a member of the New Life Center Church where she was part of a ladies missionary group and taught Sunday School. After her husband's death in 1982, she married Charles Canfield in 1986 in La Grande. He died in 1998 and in 2001 she moved to a care center. She enjoyed quilting and won many blue ribbons for crocheted tablecloths and other items at the Union County Fair. She enjoyed flower gardening, quoting poetry, fishing and playing a mouth harp.

Survivors include her children, Lowell Cade of Madras, Floyd Cade of Castle Rock, Washington, Eleanor Ackerman of Gresham and Mary Hendrick of Longview; stepchildren, Dennis Jobes of Pilot Rock and Betty Wood of Tacoma, Washington; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. A son, Robert and seven siblings all died earlier.
