Marvin E. Twidwell 89, life resident of La Grande died July 27, 2014 at his home. Marvin was born January 1, 1925, in La Grande to James E., and Sophia (Hoak) Twidwell, one of 11 children. Graveside services will be held Saturday August 2 at 10:00am at the Island City cemetery.
He served in the US Army in WWII, receiving an honorable discharge and the Purple Heart for his service.
On December 2, 1947 he married Lorraine Novak, of The Dalles OR. They raised three children Kenny, Karen, and Kathie. Marvin worked most of his life in the timber industry, retiring from Boise Cascade Stud mill of Elgin in 1987.
Marvin had strong beliefs in Our Lord and was a member of the Damascus Road Ministries of La Grande. He will always be remembered as a person who always looked at the good in a person and there were many widow women that he made sure were taken care of. A story was always being told about life in the 30, 40, and 50's. He could disassemble cars, motors or whatever that need ‘fixin'; then put back together in working order, but sometimes there would be a can or two of ‘extra parts'. One of his prides in the summer was his ‘hundred acre' garden, which he would share if you needed it.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Lorraine, his parents,James & Sophia Twidwell, Sisters, Zella Conner, Naomi Perry, Elva Quinland, Brothers, Jim, Gerald, Barney, and Wilfred Twidwell, two infant brothers; his son Kenny Twidwell, sons-in-law,Jim Smith and Les Brasure; and his companion dog Lady.
Survivors include sister, Dee Kennedy of Anchorage, AK, daughters, Karen Smith, Kathie Twidwell & Marty Sasser of La Grande; daughter-in-law, Juli Twidwell & Dan Izzo of The Dalles, sister-in-law, Neila Dalbeck of Jacksonville Fl; grandchildren, Kristi & Rod Ritchie of La Grande, Jennifer Smith Brasure of The Dalles, Zeb & Sara Grove of La Grande, Samual Wade Grove of Tualatin, StephaniTwidwell& Mike Lane of Las Vegas, Ranay Twidwell Guifarro & Walter of Las Vegas. Great grandchildren Austin & Kyndra Ritchie, Fin Grove and Ashlee Brasure. Numerous nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Damascus Road Ministries of La Grande c/o Daniels-Knopp Funeral Cremation & Life Celebration Center.
