Marvel was born April 5, 1929, the oldest of three children to Virginia and Lloyd Schaefer in Norfolk, Va. She attended school in Salem, Bremerton, Wash., and Gresham.

Marvel was a successful entrepreneur, operating several businesses in her life including an art studio, health food store and the restaurant called Pete's Pond.

She was an accomplished artist, capturing much of Wallowa County's beautiful scenery in her oil paintings. She was also able to share her skill in her art classes.

Marvel also found pleasure in writing - cataloguing her life's adventures in personal memoirs for friends and family, as well as writing poetry for herself.

She enjoyed years of gardening and landscaping in her large gardens around her home. Most importantly, however, throughout her life, Marvel was always driven to help those around her.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed serving in her various callings. She gained lifetime friends in and outside of the church. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Marvel is survived by her sister, Clarann Witty and her husband, Derrell of Enterprise; daughter, Diana Yoshioka and her husband, Vern, of Vancouver, Wash.; son, Gary Connolly and his wife, Connie, of Hillsboro; eight granddaughters; five grandsons; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Ford Peterson; mother, Virginia Nunn; father, Lloyd Schaefer; and brother, Glenn.

Memorial contributions may be made to Community Connection in Enterprise.
