Marty Shawn Halliday

September 22, 1963 — November 22, 2024

Marty Halliday, lifetime resident of La Grande, died Friday, November 22, 2024 at the Grande Ronde Hospital at the age of 61.

A service will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Daniels-Knopp Funeral Chapel, 1502 7th Street, La Grande. Committal and vault interment will follow at Hillcrest East Cemetery.

Marty Shawn was born on September 22, 1963 in La Grande one of five children born to Alta William “Doc” and Grace (Viergutz) Halliday. He graduated from the La Grande High School with the class of 1982. 

Marty was multi-talented and could do nearly anything from building molds, pouring ceramics, glazing and firing products in the family business, Holidaize Ceramics, working at auctions, delivering airborne freight, was a maintenance man at several local hotels and anything else that needed to be done not the least of which was serving as a caregiver to his family members when circumstances necessitated. He enjoyed chauffeuring them when needed to various functions and appointments including his brother Lynn’s Santa Clause engagements.

He was interested in anything to do with the railroad and was a member of the UPEC club, the Union Pacific Historic Committee, and Friends of the Joseph Branch. He enjoyed not only working the auctions but buying as well. He also enjoyed playing darts in a league, NASCAR, playing bingo and especially loved all of his dogs.

Marty was preceded in death by a brother Winfield Scott, who died as an infant, his mother in 2007 and his father in 2014. Survivors include his sisters, Billie Halliday and Pam (Tim) Willcoxon, of La Grande, brothers, Randy (Cheryl) Halliday of Provo, UT, and Lynn Halliday of La Grande; several beloved nieces & nephews; his dogs, Oscar & Fish.
